Where is Mexico’s Lake Chapala area?

8 Jul

The area surrounding Lake Chapala (or in Spanish ” Lago de Chapala”) is a popular place for expats to move to, and who can blame them? Lake Chapala is Mexico’s largest freshwater lake and includes three small islands: Isla de los Alacranes (the largest of the all the islands), Isla Mezcala and a third very small island called La Isla Menor.

The lake reaches a max of 80 km in length by 18 km in width and the average depth is 4.5 meters ( or about14.9 feet).

According to Wiki – the lake lies in the municipalities of “Chapala, Jocotepec, Poncitlán, and Jamay, in Jalisco, and in Venustiano Carranza and Cojumatlán de Régules, in Michoacán.”
